Nawa Medagama is a newly established village under Mahaweli Development Project. As it is newly built and surround by some other village it was “ Nawa- New” “ Meda- Central” “Gama- Village” (Nawa medagama). Thought was so named very recently the other surrounded villages have a historic backgroun
d, for example a bordering village Henanigala divided by Indigenous people was found in as far back as 1965. Even ancient ruins of king Dutugamunu era can be found in the vicinity. These villagan came from has a multi religions, multi cultural background as they were resettled reign of the country. Their main source of living is paddy cultivation and some engage is fishing industry in Inland water resources.
The village surround mea dime are kelegama,Wewgama, Diawiddagama, Pahalagama, Medagama, Kudagama, Wewmedagama, Henanigala South and Henanigala North. In village there is over 200 families. The Maduruoya National Park on in eastern boundary of the village.
As it was establish under a rural develop project the building live banks, post office, school and computer laborers were newly established. It resulted as speedy development of the village.
